Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do to order a shotgun with a barrel length of less than 18 inches?

Shotguns with barrels less than 18 inches long are regulated by the National Firearms Act. (NFA) We will only sell NFA shotguns to a Class 3 Federal Firearms Dealer or a law enforcement agency with an approved purchase order and usage letter.

If you are a civilian, a Class 3 Federal Firearms Dealer can assist you in preparing the required paperwork and submitting it to the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) for approval. Please note that you must have this paperwork before Wilson Combat / Scattergun Technologies can begin to build an NFA firearm for you. Usually the approval process by the BATF takes about 8 weeks.

Does the Remington Steal offer apply to the 1100 & 1187 model shotguns?

No, the rebuild offer only applies to the Remington 870 shotgun.

Do the Ghost Ring sights fit shotguns other than the Remington 870 & 1187 models?

Currently the Ghost Ring sights fit only the 870 & 1187 model shotguns, they cannot be mounted on other model shotguns.

Should I remove the stocks from my shotgun before sending it for the Remington Steal rebuild?

As part of the rebuild offer we replace the stocks. If you would like to keep your old stocks then you may remove them before shipping the shotgun to us. However removing the stocks is not required.

What shotgun ammunition do you recommend?

For the Remington 870 model Remington Reduced Recoil 8 pellet 00 buck for defense purposes.

The Remington 1187 will operate most reliably with loads that are at least 2-3/4 dram, 1 1/8 ounce loads. A 3-dram, 1 1/8 ounce load is better.

How do I install a magazine tube extension?

Our magazine extensions are easy to install.

  • Before working on any firearm PLEASE check the weapon to insure it is unloaded

  • Please wear eye protection when working on any firearm

Begin by pushing the barrel into the receiver slightly to relieve pressure from the magazine end cap. Unscrew the magazine end cap by turning counter clockwise. ** The magazine end cap has a spring behind it; remove the cap slowly so it does not fly out. ** Remove the spring and follower from the magazine tube. Take note of the followers position. Replace the old follower with the new Scattergun Technologies follower and insert the spring into the magazine tube. Place the magazine extension on the top of the spring and compress the spring into the magazine tube. Turn the knurled nut clockwise to tighten the magazine extension onto the magazine tube. Tighten the knurled nut snuggly to insure the magazine extension does not come off with usage.

How often should I replace the magazine spring in my shotgun?

We recommend replacing the magazine spring in your defense shotgun every 6 months if the shotgun is kept loaded.

How much length does the short stock remove?

The short stock reduces the stock length by 1 inch. This assists in making the shotgun fast to shoulder.
